Frank Webb

Frank Webb studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he was influenced by Vincent Nesbert, John Jellico, Angelo DiVincenzo and Syd Solomon. He began a career in commercial art and illustration, becoming a senior partner of Phillips studio in 1958. In 1970 he studied watercolor with Edgar Whitney. In 1980 he left the firm to begin teaching fine art painting. He has authored four books and 17 articles, and his work is included in 24 publications by other authors.

Webb has received more than 110 major awards, including six from the American Watercolor Society where he is a vice president and a Dolphin Fellow. He also holds the Crest Medal For Achievement in the Arts from the Philadelphia Water Color Society and is a Master Visual Artist of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. The Transparent Watercolor Society of America has awarded him Master Status and the Jiangsu, China Watercolor Research Institute has granted him honorary membership.

The works of Frank Webb are in the permanent collections of several museums including: The Butler Institute of American Art, the Taiwan Art Education Institute, the Palmer Museum of Penn State University, the Lakes Art Center, the Southern Alleghenies Art Museum, the Portland Museum of Art, The Martin Museum of Art, Baylor University, and the Tweed Art Museum of the University of Minnesota. He is represented by the Harbor Square Gallery, Rockland, Maine.

As a guest instructor, Webb has conducted hundreds of painting seminars, worldwide and in 50 states. He is included in 20 Great Watercolor Teachers by the American Artist Watercolor Magazine. His biography is included in "Who's Who in American Art" and "Who's Who in the East". He has juried more than 100 national exhibitions, has lectured twice for the American Watercolor Society and once for the National Watercolor Society.

Webb is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America, the Audubon Artists, the National Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Water Color Society, Allied Artists, Audubon Artists, and many other organizations.

A resident of Pittsburgh, Webb is a long time member and past president of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society. He is locally identified as a Master Visual Artist by the Pittsburgh Center For the Arts.
